The Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and The Department of Anthropology of Literature and Cultural Studies invite you to a lecture by Professor Dorota Głowacka (University of King's College, Halifax) "Animalistic Yelp": Language and the Experience of Torture Monday June 24th, 3:00 PM, Room 302, Grodzka Street 64 Dorota Głowacka completed her MA in English at the University of Wroclaw, Poland, specialising in American literature. She obtained her PhD in comparative literature from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Glowacka has taught critical theory, literary topics and Holocaust studies in the Contemporary Studies Programme since 1995. She also lectures in the Foundation Year Programme and at Dalhousie University, where she has been cross-appointed to the graduate faculties of English, History, European Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies. She is married to Zbigniew Glowacki and has two children, Maria and Jerome. She authored Disappearing Traces: Holocaust Testimonials, Ethics and Aesthetics (Washington University Press, S. Weinstein Series in Holocaust Studies, 2012) and edited Between Ethics and Aesthetics: Crossing the Boundaries (Albany: SUNY Press, 2002, with Stephen Boos) and Imaginary Neighbors: Mediating Polish-Jewish Relations after the Holocaust (Lincoln: Nebraska University Press, 2007, with Joanna Żylińska)... »
