Since 2010 Department of International Polish Studies  is a part of Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities.

Associate Professor, born 1978 in Krakow, graduated with distinction from the Jagiellonian University's (UJ) Institute of Polish Studies. He is currently the Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at UJ, Head of the Graduate Programme in Polish Studies (in English) and Local Co-ordinator of the "Cultural Studies in Literary Interzones" international doctoral programme, which is sponsored by the European Union and run by 16 universities from Europe, Asia, Australia and North and South America. In 2008, he received his PhD degree from the Jagiellonian University (doctoral dissertation: "Comparative Literature as an Art of Interpretation in the Context of Translation Studies"). In 2002 – 2005, he held the post of Secretary to the Chancellor of the Jagiellonian University. In 2002, he graduated from Collegium Invisibile in Warsaw in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory. He is a three-time laureate of the scholarship awarded by the Ministers of National Education and Sport. In 2000, he was a Socrates/Erasmus student at Ghent University in Belgium. He has received academic grants from the Stanislaw Estreicher Fund (2004), the Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (2004) and the Karolina de Brzezie Lanckoronski Foundation (Polish Academy of Skills, London 2005). He has completed research projects at the University of Oxford, Université Paris IV Sorbonne and Centre for Translation, Communication and Culture at KU Leuven. In 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2011 he received the Chancellor's Award for professional achievements. In 2005-2007, he lectured at Indiana University as the Kosciuszko Foundation Visiting Professor. Bilczewski is also an alumnus of "The CETRA Research Programme in Translation Studies" from KU Leuven in 2007. In 2008, he was awarded the Polish Science Foundation scholarship as part of Professor Michał Paweł Markowski's subsidy. In 2009, he was awarded the Prime Minister's Award for the best doctoral dissertations in Poland. He is the laureate of the 10th edition of the "Zostańcie z nami!" ("Stay with Us!") Polish scholarship program awarded to outstanding young scholars by the Foundation of the weekly magazine Polityka. He is the recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Science's programme for outstanding young scholars (2012-2014). Bilczewski is the co-editor of the Hermeneia publishing series and is in charge of several international grants. Current book projects, supported by the National Programme for the Development of the Humanities, the National Science Centre, and the European Commission: 1/ a world history of Polish literature; 2/ traumatic modernities: postmemory and Polish literature and culture; 3/ literary theory in Poland: 1914-2014; 4/ comparative literature and national literature: representations, interpretations, translations.

Academic interests: comparative literature, literary theory and history, translation studies, trauma studies, medical humanities, Polish for foreigners (all levels from A1 to C2).
